I like it because David is famous to the human race not only for his kingship, but also for his sins. But the LORD remembers David as a “man after His own heart”. After he confessed a particular round of sins (the Bathsheba/Uriah incident), the prophet Nathan told him, “the LORD has taken away your sins..”
This goes along with Jeremiah 31:34 and 1 John 1:9:
“…”For I will forgive their wrongdoing and never again remember their sin.”
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
I like this picture of grace. Even though we remember how David royally (pun intended) screwed up (no pun intended – sorry!), he confessed his sin in faith…and the Lord still established his line as the everlasting Messianic dynasty.
